Dzmitry Bulanau is a chess master from Brest. Now he ranks 28th among all Belarusian players and has the title of FIDE Master.
In 2020 Dzmitry and his colleagues created the group "Free Chess Players of Belarus" and started playing under the white-red-white flag. Together with the team, which includes some of the strongest Belarusian chess players, they won the Chess Bundesliga twice.
According to "Mediazona", GUBOPiK got full access to the closed chat room "Free Chess Players of Belarus". Bulanau himself was released on his own recognizance after three days of detention.
On October 25, 2024, he was sentenced to 18 months' imprisonment in a penal colony under Article 342 of the Criminal Code (organization and preparation of actions that grossly violate public order, or active participation in them).
