Aliaksandr Tarasenka is a former hieromonk of the Saint Nicholas Monastery in Homieĺ. Before the arrest, he worked as a truck driver.
Tarasenka was arrested on March 23, 2023. In the "repentance" video, he said that he had posted an offensive post towards Lukashenka on his Facebook page. Soon it became known that he was charged under Article 368 of the Criminal Code ('Contempt of the president of Belarus').
On July 10, 2023, in the Čyhunačny District Court of Homieĺ, Judge Illia Svirydau sentenced the political prisoner to 24 months of imprisonment in a general-security penal colony.
