Siarhei Botvich, 59, was convicted in a closed court hearing under Article 358-1 of the Criminal Code on charges of espionage activities. He was sentenced to imprisonment in a penal colony.

From October 26 to November 15, 2022, the case was considered by Judge Anatol Zayats. He sentenced Siarhei to 13 years' imprisonment.

Although Siarhei does not have Belarusian citizenship, he grew up and lived in Belarus. He owned companies with a total turnover of hundreds of thousands of dollars.

Siarhei did business in Belarus, Russia, France and Lithuania - mainly in tourism and wholesale export of coal from Eastern Europe to the Baltic States and Western Europe.
