Pavel Belaholau was detained in Mahilioŭ for publishing comments on the Internet in connection with the deaths of IT worker Andrei Zeltser and KGB agent Dzmitry Fedasiuk.
Pavel Belaholau was accused of insulting a government official (Art. 369 of the Criminal Code) and discrediting the Republic of Belarus (Article 369-1)
On 25 August 2022, the Drybin District Court sentenced him to two years and six months of imprisonment and a fine of 3,200 Belarusian roubles ($1,300).
According to human rights defenders, he was released from prison on October 10, 2023.
On May 31, 2024, a new trial began in the Leninski District Court of Mahilioŭ. Pavel was charged with "slandering Aliaksandr Lukashenka" (Part 2 of Article 367 of the Criminal Code). The trial was conducted by Tatsiana Rakhmanenka, who sentenced the political prisoner to three years and four months in a general-security penal colony.
