On May 15, 2023, Yury Khlebavets was convicted under Part 1 of Article 342 of the Criminal Code of the Republic of Belarus (organization and preparation of actions that grossly violate public order, or active participation in them). The comments made by Yury in the "Hrodna-97" chat room were the reason for his arrest.
Judge Uladzimir Pazniak sentenced Yury to 18 months in an open-type facility called "khimiya". He was released in the courtroom.
On June 2, 2023 Yury was added to the list of Belarusian citizens, foreign citizens, and stateless individuals involved in extremist activities .
On October 17, 2023, there was another trial to change the punishment type to serve the remaining sentence in a closed colony.
