Siarhei Horlau studied at the Minsk State Linguistic University and later graduated from the European Humanities University. He worked as a translator and English teacher.
He was arrested in February 2024. Horlau's trial began on November 1, 2024 at the Minsk City Court. He is charged with "promoting extremist activities" (parts 1 and 2 of Article 361-4 of the Criminal Code), "inciting hatred" (part 1 of Article 130 of the Criminal Code), "calling for sanctions" (part 3 of Article 361 of the Criminal Code), and "insulting Lukashenka" (part 1 of Article 368 of the Criminal Code). He is being tried by Judge Alena Shylko.
