Yury Staneuski, 38, was detained at the end of December 2021 and taken to the KGB detention center. Then he was transferred to prison No. 1 of Hrodna.
He was charged under a number of articles of the Criminal Code:
- Insulting the President of the Republic of Belarus (Part 1 of Article 368)
- Desecration of state symbols (Article 370)
- Violence or threat against an official performing official duties (Part 2 of Article 366)
- Violence or threat against an official performing official duties or another person performing a public duty (Part 1 of Article 366)
- Insulting a government official (Article 369)
- Incitement to hatred (Part 1 of Article 130)
The KGB put Staneuski on the list of persons involved in terrorist activities.
On October 4, 2022, the criminal board of the Hrodna Regional Court sentenced Staneuski to seven years of imprisonment in a medium-security penal colony and a fine of 1,600 rubles ($630). The trial was presided over by Judge Anatol Zayats.
