Dzmitryi Hudzik is a citizen of Ukraine. He was convicted under Article 358-1 of the Criminal Code (Secret agent activity). Mikhail Staliarchuk was also convicted in that case. According to the indictment, they collected data on military equipment and facilities in Belarus on the instructions of the Security Service of Ukraine. On November 24, 2022, the Brest Regional Court announced the verdict. Judge Andrei Leshchanka sentenced Mikhail Staliarchuk to six years and Dzmitryi Hudzik to five years of imprisonment in a general-security penal colony.
The trial included several closed sessions. The result of the trial and the essence of the accusation became known from the Belarusian propagandistic TV film Counterintelligence. Operations of Belarusian KGB against special services of the West and Ukraine, which also mentions political prisoners Dzianis Ivashyn and Yuryi Ziankovich, persons involved in the case of OGSB (Civil Self-Defense Detachments of Belarus), and others.
According to the plot of the film, the two Ukrainians were arrested at the Makrany border checkpoint in the Brest region—they were traveling from Lviv to Brest by coach. The date of the arrest is not known, but it is believed to have happened in early 2023. According to the indictment, since 2018, they have been collecting data on the military vehicles, equipment, and facilities in Belarus on the instructions of the Security Service of Ukraine. Ihar Dzirko was also arrested with them, but instead of prosecution, he was deported from Belarus.
