Aliaksei Tkachuk was convicted on trumped-up charges of possession of training ammunition under Part 2 of Article 295 of the Criminal Code and sentenced to six years of imprisonment in a medium-security penal colony.
He was arrested on May 18, 2021, in connection with the leakage of documents from the Defense Ministry of Belarus. During the investigation, a separate criminal proceeding was started because explosives were allegedly found during the search of the apartment.
In August 2022, the Minsk City Court handed down a sentence: six years of imprisonment in a medium-security penal colony. Besides, Aliaksei Tkachuk was deprived of his military rank and fined 500 basic fines. The trial was held behind closed doors.
In August 2020, Tkachuk filed a report for dismissal from the army and was dismissed in November 2020.
