Alena Tsimashchuk worked as a freelance journalist for Zeleny Portal and Brestskaya Gazeta, as well as a correspondent for Brestsky Vestnik. She was charged with discrediting Belarus (Article 369-1 of the Criminal Code), inciting hostility or discord (Part 3 of Article 130 of the Criminal Code), participating in an extremist formation (Part 3 of Article 361-1 of the Criminal Code).
On June 3, 2024, the Brest Regional Court found her guilty under all three articles and sentenced her to a five years' imprisonment, as well as a fine of 46,000 Belarusian rubles. The case was considered by Judge Dzmitry Karasinski.
