Volha Rytus was arrested on April 12, 2022, under Article 342 of the Criminal Code (Group actions grossly violating public order) for her participation in the post-election protests in 2020. Volha has a 12-year-old son.

The woman's eldest son is studying in Poland. It is reported that during the search GUBOPiK officers told the family that the boy was using drugs there and would also be arrested after his return to Belarus.

On July 14, 2022, at the Frunzienski District Court of Minsk, Volha was sentenced to three years of restricted freedom under home confinement. The woman was released in the courtroom.
