Vital Charnavusau is 32 years old and lives in the city of Lida (Hrodna region). He was arrested in late July 2022.
On December 8, 2022, the Minsk City Court convicted him under Part 1 and Part 2 of Article 361-2 of the Criminal Code of Belarus ('Financing extremist activities') for donations to the BYSOL foundation. Judge Vera Halaukova considered the case and sentenced Charnavusau to five years of imprisonment in a general-security penal colony and a fine of 16,000 Belarusian rubles (approx. $5,326).
Since April 2023, he has been serving his sentence in penal colony #1 in Navapolack (Viciebsk region).
On March 31, 2023, Vital Charnavusau was included in the 'List of Belarusian citizens, foreign citizens, and stateless persons involved in extremist activities'.
