Viktar Dzibrou was detained in early August 2022 for a comment in which he allegedly insulted Aliaksandar Lukashenka. A criminal case under Article 368 of the Criminal Code (‘insult to the president’) was brought against him.
On November 29, 2022, the Mahilioŭ Regional Court considered the case in a closed-door trial. Dzibrou was eventually tried under Art. 361-4 of the Criminal Code for “promoting extremist activities”, according to human rights defenders. On December 2, Judge Ihar Ziamtsou sentenced him to two and a half years of imprisonment in a general-security penal colony.
