Vasil Yakimau is 23 years old. He lives in the Astraviec district (Hrodna region). He graduated from a vocational school and worked as a truck driver.
His trial began on June 19, 2023. On June 23, 2023, the Hrodna Regional Court sentenced him to 24 months of imprisonment in a general-security penal colony for "preparation for participation in armed formations in a foreign state" (Part 1 of Article 361-3 of the Criminal Code). Judge Vasil Skok heard the case.
According to the website of the Prosecutor General's Office, from April to November 2022, Vasil Yakimau "expressed his desire and then outlined his intention" to join one of the units of the Kastus Kalinoŭski Regiment. He allegedly provided his data for admission to the Regiment and collected information about the places for the purchase of military ammunition, uniform, and other equipment for use in combat conditions. He did not manage to implement his intentions, as he was arrested by law enforcers.
