Vadzim Khrasko was arrested as a defendant in a criminal case under Article 361-2 of the Criminal Code ('Financing of extremist activities').
In early August 2023, he was sentenced to three years of imprisonment in a general-security penal colony.
A Supreme Court hearing for Vadzim's appeal was scheduled for October 13, 2023. The sentence was upheld by the Court.
On November 3, 2023, Vadzim was added to the "list of extremists".
The political prisoner died on the night of January 8 to 9, 2024. According to human rights activists, Vadzim had a number of diseases and was ill in prison. The official cause of his death was pneumonia. Vadzim was taken to the hospital when it was impossible to save him.
The government officials did not comment on the incident in the Viciebsk penal colony.
On January 12, 2024, Vadzim Khrasko was buried in Minsk.
