Vadzim Hil was detained on July 27, 2021 near his home for an insulting comment against a prosecutor. He then faced criminal charges under Art. 369 of the Criminal Code (insult of a representative of the authorities). His house was searched.

It is also known that Vadzim was writing a book about the 2020 protests.

On October 29, the Saviecki District Court of Minsk found Hil guilty under Article 369 and Part 1 of Article 368 of the Criminal Code.

He was sentenced to three years of restricted freedom in an open penitentiary ("khimiya") and a fine of 8,700 rubles. The convict was released to wait for an appeal hearing.
