Siarhei Zaitsau was convicted under Article 369 of the Criminal Code (Insulting a government official) for making inappropriate remarks to the prosecutor at his own trial. The victim was an assistant prosecutor in Viciebsk. It is reported that Zaitsau had 11 previous convictions.
On December 6, 2023, Judge Mikhail Zubenia found Zaitsau guilty and sentenced him to two years and six months of imprisonment and a fine of 50 basic units. By partial addition of the punishment imposed by this sentence and the sentence imposed by the verdict of the Peršamaiski District Court of Viciebsk dated June 2, 2023, the final sentence was five years' imprisonment in a high-security prison and a fine of 2 562,4 rubles.
