Siarhei Ramanau is an activist in the anarchist movement. He was detained while crossing the border of Belarus on the night of October 28-29, 2020.
He, together with Dzmitry Dubouski, Ihar Alinevich and Dzmitry Dubouski, was charged under several articles for setting fire to government officials’ vehicles and the buildings of the traffic police and the state committee of expertise in the Homieĺ region:
- Part 2 of Article 289 ('Act of terrorism');
- Parts 2 and 4 of Article 295 ('Illegal actions regarding firearms, ammunition and explosives').
In February 2021, the KGB added the political prisoner to the 'List of persons involved in terrorist activities'.
On December 22, 2021, the Minsk Regional Court announced the verdict in this criminal case. Judge Viachaslau Tuleika sentenced Siarhei Ramanau to 20 years of imprisonment in a maximum-security penal colony.
On January 9, 2022, Ramanau was transferred to remand prison #6 in Baranavičy (Brest region), the administration of which often placed him in a punishment cell.
On May 23, 2022, the political prisoner was transferred to penal colony #11 in Vaŭkavysk (Hrodna region). In August, it became known that the penal colony administration placed Ramanau in a tighter security cell for a month. Previously, he was placed in a punishment cell several times, deprived of parcels and calls. In December, Ramanau was again placed in a punishment cell for a week and then in a tighter security cell for four months. They again placed him in a punishment cell for 15 days in February.
On March 23, 2023, in Vaŭkavysk, Siarhei Ramanau was tried under Part 2 of Article 411 of the Criminal Code ('Malicious disobedience to requirements of penitentiary administration'). Judge Mikalai Talashka sentenced the political prisoner to 11 months of imprisonment. Thus, the final sentence for Ramanau is 20 years and 11 months of imprisonment.
