Siarhei Kupreshyn is a retired army officer sentenced to 3 years in a medium-security penal colony for insulting officials and for storing gunpowder after losing a permit to own hunting weapons.
According to the charges, on April 2, 2021, intending to publicly insult deputy prosecutor Karenka, he sent an email to the prosecutor's office of the Viciebsk region. The email contained "negative assessment of the official," including by using an "abusive segment". On the same day, he sent another email to first deputy chairman of the district executive committee Liutynski, which allegedly insulted the official. With these two counts, he reportedly committed a crime under Art. 369 of the Criminal Code (insulting a representative of the authorities).
He also violated the terms of the permit to carry weapons and illegally stored smoke powder. For this, he faced charges under Art. 295 of the Criminal Code (Illegal actions with weapons).
