Pavel Mazheika is the head of the Urban Life Center in Hrodna and a journalist. He was arrested in late  August 2022, upon his return to Belarus. Searches were conducted in his and his parents' homes.

The charges brought against Pavel Mazheika were unknown as his lawyer was under a non-disclosure agreement.

On January 31, 2023, his detention was extended for another month.

It is known that they stopped accepting parcels with vitamins and medicines from prisoners' relatives in the remand prison in Hrodna where Pavel Mazheika is remanded.

In February 2023, when visiting her son in Prison #1 in Hrodna, the mother of Pavel Mazheika noticed that he still has handcuff marks on his hands and a mark of beating under his left eye. His wife believes that he was tortured during his arrest.

In March 2023, it became known that Pavel Mazheika was accused under Article 361-4 of the Criminal Code ('Supporting extremist activities').

On July 10, 2023, the Hrodna Regional Court started the trial of the political prisoners Yuliya Yurhilevich and Pavel Mazheika. They were accused under Part 2 of Article 361-4 of the Criminal Code ('Other facilitation of extremist activities, committed repeatedly by a group of persons based on a previous conspiracy'). Judge Maksim Filatau considered the case.

On July 26, 2023, Pavel Mazheika was sentenced to six years of imprisonment in a medium-security penal colony. The lawyer Yuliya Yurhilevich was sentenced to six years of imprisonment in a general-security penal colony. Both the political prisoners pleaded not guilty.
