Maksim Zharau is a defendant in the Brest "round dance case," which was initiated after the events of September 13, 2020 in the city (when protesters took to the roadway and were dispersed by a water cannon).

The charges were brought under Article 342 of the Criminal Code (group actions that grossly violate public order).

On February 25, 2021 Leninski District Court of Brest passed the first verdicts in this criminal case. Maksim Zharau received a two-year sentence and was sent to an open-type correctional facility.
