Liudmila Volkava is a member of the Presidium of the Belarusian Social Democratic Party. She was detained on January 19, 2022, at work. Then her house was searched and technical equipment was confiscated.
She is accused under Article 342 of the Criminal Code (Organization and preparation of actions that grossly violate public order or active participation in them). Liudmila was transferred to pre-trial detention center.
She has a small child left at home.
On May 27, 2022, the trial on Liudmila's case started at Lieninski District Court of Minsk. The prosecutor requested two years of imprisonment in a general-security penal colony. He also asked to satisfy the claim of Minsktrans for 152,000 rubles (50,000 US dollars). Judge Yuliya Shut sustained his request on May 31, 2022.
