Liudmila Hancharenka, a citizen of Ukraine, was convicted under Article 358-1 of the Criminal Code (agent activity). On December 19, 2023, the case was considered in closed session by Judge Yauhen Sharshniou.
On March 22, 2024, she was included in the "list of extremists" by the Ministry of Internal Affairs.
She served her sentence in Women's Colony No. 4.
On the evening of June 28, 2024, the information about the release of five political prisoners from Belarusian penal colonies suddenly appeared. The Ukrainian authorities secured the release of their citizens through a prisoner exchange. As a result, Natallia Zakharanka, Pavlo Kupriyenko, Liudmila Hancharenka, Katsiaryna Brukhanava, and a figure in the "Machulishchy case", Mykola Shvets, were released. The terms of the exchange were not disclosed. The released political prisoners were brought to Ukraine on June 28. Their photos from the Zhulyany airport appeared in the media.
