Leanid Shamau is a student at Polack State University.
He was sentenced to 2 years and 6 months in a general-security penal colony for ‘training for participation in mass riots’ under Part 3 of Article 293 of the Criminal Code.
According to the case files, on August 10 and 11, 2020 Leanid ‘intentionally and unlawfully’ collected and disseminated information intended for these purposes. The prosecution was sure that he distributed it through Telegram chats so that the residents of Novapolack and nearby localities could familiarize themselves with it. Shamau was kept in custody until his conviction.
In the middle of May 2022, Leanid was escorted from pre-trial detention facility to Babrujsk penal colony No. 2.
