Katsiaryna Makarevich works as a chief accountant. She was arrested in late September 2021 and charged under Article 361-1 of the Criminal Code (creation of an extremist group or participation in it) for creating and leading several groups in the Telegram messaging application.
On April 25, 2022, the trial started in Viciebsk District Court. On May 20, Judge Mikhail Zubenia found Katsiaryna guilty and sentenced her to 3.5 years of imprisonment in a general-security penal colony.
