Yury Yurenia was arrested along with his son Vital Yurenia for making donations. The man was convicted of making more than 100 transfers totaling $1,885 from August 7, 2020, to March 24, 2021. This was considered as "financing the activities of an extremist formation".
Yury was sentenced to five years of imprisonment in a general-security penal colony under Article 361-2 of the Criminal Code (financing the activities of an extremist group). The trial took place on November 20, 2023 in the Minsk City Court. The verdict was pronounced by Judge Sviatlana Charapanava.
Yury pleaded not guilty at the hearing. He explained that he considered the "formations" to which he donated as charitable organizations.
