Yury Ulasau is a proxy of presidential candidate Sviatlana Tsikhanouskaya in the Homieĺ region.
He was arrested on August 6, 2020, in Homieĺ. His apartment was searched as part of a criminal case. On November 15, 2019, Ulasau allegedly insulted police officers.
Yury Ulasau was later charged under Part 2 of Art. 293 of the Criminal Code, "participation in riots."
On May 4, 2021, Judge Aliaksei Khlyshchankou of the Čyhunačny District Court of Homieĺ found the activist guilty under Part 2 of Article 293 of the Criminal Code (participation in mass riots), Article 292 of the Criminal Code (seizure of buildings) and Part 1 of Article 369 of the Criminal Code (insulting a government official). Ulasau was sentenced to 6 1/2 years in a medium-security penal colony.
