Yauhen Markavets is an activist based in Homieĺ.
Markavets was detained on May 28, 2021. His apartment was searched by security forces. After 72 hours, he was transferred to a pre-trial detention center and charged under Article 342 of the Criminal Code (organization or active participation in group activities that grossly violate public order).
On November 22, 2021, the Saviecki District Court of Homieĺ sentenced the man to one and a half years in a general-security penal colony under Part 1 of Art. 342 (organization of actions grossly violating public order) and Art. 369 (public insult to a government official).
Yauhen served his sentence in full and was released on July 18, 2022.
