Statement on the status of a political prisoner
Yahor Liankevich was detained on December 9, 2021, as part of a criminal case on group actions that grossly violated public order (Article 342 of the Criminal Code) and participation in mass riots (Part 2 of Article 293 of the Criminal Code).
He was sentenced to 5 years and 6 months of imprisonment in a medium-security penal colony.
In June 2022, the KGB included the political prisoner in the list of "persons involved in terrorist activities".
He was included in the list of Belarusian citizens, foreign citizens and stateless persons involved in extremist activities.
Yahor has been serving his sentence in Navapolatsk penal colony No. 1 since June 2022.
On September 5, 2023, the trial was held to change the prison security level for the political prisoner.
On September 16, 2023, Yahor was transferred to prison No. 4. The political prisoner has to serve 2 years there.
