Statement on the status of a political prisoner
Ivan Parshyn was arrested on November 19, 2021, for 'insulting the president of Belarus' (Article 368 of the Criminal Code) and 'inciting hatred' (Article 130 of the Criminal Code). The reason for the criminal proceedings was his posts on the VKontakte Russian social network.
On May 22, 2022, Ivan Parshyn was sentenced to 24 months of imprisonment in a general-security penal colony.
In late June 2022, it became known that Ivan Parshyn was transferred from remand prison #1 in Minsk to Prison #4 in Mahilioŭ, and then to penal colony #2 in Babrujsk (Mahilioŭ region).
In September 2022, the KGB included the political prisoner in their 'List of persons involved in terrorist activities'.
On July 11, 2023, Ivan Parshyn was released after serving his term in sentence. Before his release, he was placed in a punishment cell.
