Ihar Sviryda is from Brest. He was accused of insulting Lukashenka, verbally and in writing, under Part 1 of Article 368 of the Criminal Code (Contempt of the President of Belarus).
Ihar Sviryda was arrested on February 14, 2023, and placed in custody in a local detention center.
On March 29, 2023, in the Leininsky District Court of Brest, Judge Andrei Hrushko found Ihar Sviryda guilty and sentenced him to 12 months of imprisonment in a general-security penal colony.
According to the prosecution, on February 13, 2023, Ihar Sviryda, provided to a compulsory execution department officer his handwritten explanation of the reasons for non-payment of fines for various administrative offenses, in which he deliberately insulted Lukashenka.
On April 14, 2023, Ihar Sviryda was included in the "List of Belarusian citizens, foreign citizens, and stateless persons involved in extremist activities".
