Ihar Khartanovich is a foreman at the elevator of Lidakhlebaprodukt (a major manufacturer of flour products in Belarus). He was arrested on August 5, 2022, at his workplace, by fully armed riot policemen. Allegedly Khartanovich participated in protest actions in 2020.
On November 3, 2022, in the Lida District Court, Judge Aliaksandr Mishurau sentenced Khartanovich to three years of imprisonment in a general-security penal colony.
He was found guilty under three articles of the Criminal Code:
- Part 1 and Part 2 of Article 367 ('Slander against the President of Belarus')
- Part 1 and Part 2 of Article 368 ('Contempt of the President of Belarus')
