Ihar Charnavusau was detained on March 31, 2023. He was placed in custody in a criminal case under three articles of the Criminal Code: Part 1 and 2 of Article 361-4 (Promoting extremist activities), Article 368 (Insulting Lukashenka), Part 1 of Article 361-1 (Creation of an extremist formation, or participation in it). Uladzimir Kamennau and Dzmitry Papkou were also detained in the same case.
Following a brutal detention, the friends were forced to record a 'penitential video' in which they claimed to have created a chat room to correspond with each other. Allegedly, they made several insulting comments about Lukashenka and wrote 'wrong' comments after the invasion of Russia in Ukraine.
On January 5, 2024, a closed-door hearing of the case began in the Homieĺ Regional Court. Judge Aleh Kharoshka presided over the case.
