Dzianis Kharunzhy was detained on September 13, 2022, as a defendant in a criminal case on ‘group actions grossly disrupting public order’ under Article 342 of the Criminal Code.

Eventually, Kharunzhy was charged with insulting Lukashenka under Part 1 of Art. 368 of the Criminal Code ('Insulting the president of Belarus').

On February 14, 2023, the trial was held in the Zavodski District Court of Minsk. Judge Alena Kaptsevich found Dzianis Kharunzhy guilty and sentenced him to two years of restricted freedom under home confinement.

On March 10, 2023, Dzianis Kharunzhy was included in the 'List of citizens of Belarus, foreign citizens, and stateless persons involved in extremist activities'.
