He was charged under two articles of the Criminal Code of Belarus: Article 369 ('Contempt of a public official') and Note 1 to Part 3 of Article 203 ('Illegal actions regarding privacy information and personal data').
On November 10, 2022, in the Slonim District Court, Judge Siarhei Manko sentenced Barys Kuchynski to 3 years of freedom restriction under home confinement. Besides, Kuchynski is to pay 150 base fines (4,800 Belarusian rubles or approx. $1,633) and compensate for moral suffering to the injured policeman Viktar Lutchenka in the amount of 5,000 Belarusian rubles (approx. $1,701).
It became known that the prosecutor's office filed an appeal against the sentence and the Hrodna Regional Court sentenced Barys Kuchynski to a more severe punishment—two years of imprisonment in a general-security penal colony. The Supreme Court dismissed his appeal and upheld the verdict.
