Arseni Chyzhyk was detained in Homieĺ for publishing comments on the Internet in connection with the deaths of IT worker Andrei Zeltser and KGB agent Dzmitry Fedasiuk.
Initially, Chyzhyk was charged with ‘insulting a government official’ (Article 369 of the Criminal Code) and ‘inciting social hatred’ (Article 130 of the Criminal Code). But later charges under Article 369 were dropped.
On November 21, 2022, the Homieĺ Regional Court sentenced the political prisoner to two and a half years of imprisonment in a general-security penal colony. Judge Ruslan Tsaruk considered the case.
Arseni served out his sentence and was released from prison on October 5, 2023.
