On 22 February 2021 Viciebsk Pieršamajski District Court found Kapitonau guilty of insulting an official in connection with the performance of his official duties under Article 369 of the Criminal Code.
According to the verdict, on 3 October 2020 he insulted a policeman-driver by posting a comment in Instagram, which "contained an obscene insult to the affected law enforcement officer, negatively evaluating him." It is known that the comment concerned the moment of detention of a woman at the protest and spraying tear gas.
Aliaksei Kapitonau was sentenced to 1 1/2 years of restricted freedom in an open-type correctional facility.
