Aliaksandr Shmatau was sentenced in Viciebsk to two years of restricted freedom in an open penal facility (“khimiya”) under Art. 369 of the Criminal Code for publicly insulting a traffic policeman.

The convict was sent to serve the sentence in late October 2021.

According to human rights defenders, Shmatau was scheduled to be released in the autumn of 2023.
