Statement on the status of a political prisoner
Aliaksandr Paliuka was detained because of his comments on social networks. One of the pro-government Telegram channels showed screenshots of the messages he was accused of posting. He was charged under five criminal articles: calling for restrictive measures (sanctions) (Part 3 of Article 361 of the Criminal Code), creating of an extremist formation, or participating in it (Part 3 of Article 361-1 of the Criminal Code), insulting a government official (Article 369 of the Criminal Code), insulting Lukashenka (Part 1 of Article 368 of the Criminal Code) and slandering him (Part 2 of Article 367 of the Criminal Code).
On March 4, 2024, Judge Sviatlana Kramianiouskaya sentenced Paliuka to seven years of imprisonment in a medium-security penal colony.
On March 22, 2024, he was added to the "list of extremists".
