Aliaksandr Mantsevich is the editor-in-chief of Rehijanaĺnaja hazieta, the leading independent mass media of Maladziečna and the Maladziečna district (Minsk region). He has won various journalistic competitions and awards for high standards of work.
Aliaksandr Mantsevich lives in Viliejka, Minsk region. He graduated from the Minsk Radio-Technical Institute and the Faculty of Journalism of the Belarusian State University. He worked as a foreman and an engineer at the Zenit optical-mechanical factory in Viliejka and as a journalist in the Maladziečna district newspaper. Since 1995, he has been the founder and chief editor of the Rehijanaĺnaja hazieta weekly.
The Investigative Committee stated that Mantsevich was indicted under Article 369-1 of the Criminal Code ('Discrediting the Republic of Belarus'). According to the case file, from January 1, 2020, to March 15, 2023, heading the newspaper's editorial office, Mantsevich, together with other persons, knowingly disseminated false information discrediting Belarus and its authorities in the printed media and on its webpages.
On November 3, 2023, Judge Aliaksandr Irshyn found Mantsevich guilty and sentenced him to four years of imprisonment in a general-security penal colony. Additionally, Mantsevich was given a fine of 400 basic units (94,000 Belarusian roubles).
