Alena Romanauskiene worked as the head of the marketing service of the Lithuanian sanatorium "Belarus".
Romanauskiene could have been detained last year when she returned to Lithuania from Belarus, where she was visiting her relatives. The woman's relatives refused to comment to the Lithuanian edition. The Lithuanian Foreign Ministry said she was receiving consular assistance. The trial in the Minsk City Court began on June 3.
Alena was found guilty under Article 358-1 of the Criminal Code (agent activity). The trial was held in closed session, but according to state media, she was accused of "repeatedly providing information about the guests arriving on vacation, including high-ranking Belarusian officials". It is reported that she was allegedly recruited by the Lithuanian security services more than 10 years ago.
On June 11, 2024, the Minsk City Court sentenced Alena Romanauskiene to six years in prison.
