Aleh Davydzenka is a 71-year-old corresponding member of the National Academy of Sciences of Belarus, a doctor of biological sciences. He is the author of 300 scientific works, including 5 monographs and a textbook. He has bred 19 varieties of plants. Besides, he studied the genome of the indigenous population of Belarus.
Aleh Davydzenka and his wife Natallia Aktsiabrskaya were arrested on November 2, 2022.
Depending on their roles, they are accused under two criminal articles: Part 1 of Art. 342 ('Active participation in actions that grossly violate public order') and Art. 368 (insulting Lukashenka). Their case will be heard on December 29 in the Savetski District Court of Minsk by the judge Alena Zhukovich.
The reason for the persecution was a photo of the spouses standing with a banner during the 2020 protests.
The court of the Saviecki district of Minsk considered the case against them in one day. On December 29, 2022, Judge Alena Zhukovich sentenced Aleh and Natallia to three years of restricted freedom under home confinement.
Davydzenka was sacked from the Institute of Genetics and Cytology of the Academy of Sciences of Belarus.
