Aliaksandr Aranovich is 37 years old and lives in Staryja Darohi, Minsk region. He was a member of the team of the protest YouTube channel created by Siarhei Tsikhanouski—he was driving the branded motorhome when the team was travelling across the regions of Belarus.
He was detained during an election picket held in Hrodna on May 29, 2020, together with other members of Siarhei Tsikhanouski's team, and transferred to remand prison #1 in Minsk.
He was charged under Part 1 of Article 342 of the Criminal Code ('Organization and preparation of actions grossly disrupting public order').
On April 27, 2021, in the Lieninski District Court of Hrodna, Judge Alena Piatrova found Aliaksandr Aranovich guilty under Part 1 of Article 342 ('Organization and preparation of actions grossly disrupting public order'), Part 2 of Article 13 ('Preparing for crime'), and Article 293 ('Mass riots') of the Criminal Code and sentenced him to six years of imprisonment in a medium-security penal colony. That was the very sentence requested by the prosecutor Dzianis Korda.
On July 13, 2023, it became known that the punishment level for the political prisoner was changed to a prison regime for two years.
Aliaksandr was offered several times to write a petition for clemency, but he refused.
He was transferred from Prison No. 22 to Prison No. 4.
According to @stranafund, there has been no contact with Aliaksandr for two months. It is likely that he is in a punishment cell for refusing to write a petition for clemency.
