Yan Karliyonau is married and has a 15-year-old daughter. The last publications on Yan's social networks were in 2020: Viktar Babaryka's speech and Sviatlana Tsikhanouskaya's message to the Belarusian people.
On 11 and 13 November 2024, the criminal case against him was considered by the Minsk City Court. He was sentenced to one year's imprisonment under Part 1 of Article 130 of the Criminal Code (inciting racial, national, religious or other social enmity or discord). Judge Valiantsina Ziankevich handed down the sentence.
