He was sentenced to imprisonment under Art. 130 (Incitement to hatred), Art. 342 (Organization and preparation of actions that grossly violate public order, or active participation in them), Art. 361 (Calls for actions aimed at causing harm to the national security of the Republic of Belarus), Art. 361-1 (Creation of an extremist formation, or participation in it), Art. 366 (Violence or threat against an official performing official duties or another person performing a public duty), Art. 368 (Insulting Lukashenka), Art. 369 (Insulting a government official) of the Criminal Code. 

The verdict was pronounced by Judge Yaraslau Pisarevich on June 24, 2023.

      Kavaliou was included in the list of Belarusian citizens, foreign citizens and stateless persons involved in extremist activities.
