Aleh Liabikhau was charged under Article 369 of the Criminal Code ('Contempt of a public official') for commenting on a police officer on the Internet.
Liabikhau has numerous health problems—hypertension, diabetes, and heart disease.

On June 28, 2022, the Lieninsky District Court of Mahilioŭ found Aleh Liabikhau guilty and sentenced him to 24 months of freedom restriction with referral to an open-type penal facility. Besides, the court ordered him to pay 1,000 Belarusian rubles (approx. $340) as compensation for moral damages to the injured police officer.
Aleh Liabikhau was included in the 'List of Belarusian citizens, foreign citizens, and stateless persons involved in extremist activities'.
He began serving his sentence at open-type penal facility # 46 in the Mahilioŭ region.
